Check In / Check Out
Our books are checked in daily according to the RELATED ARTS schedule. The books are collected every morning between 8:30-9:00. Once the all the books have been properly scanned they are placed back on the shelves for check out. Our check out policy is that each student in grades 1-4 may check out 2 books at a time. If they only return 1 book then they may only check out 1 book. In others words, each student is only allowed to have 2 books checked out at any given time. Kindergarten students are only allowed to check out 1 book until the 4th nine weeks then we will allow them to start checking out 2 books. Books are allowed a one week loan period, but after that an overdue notice will be sent home. Students are required to pay for lost or damaged books.
Daily Routine
Our daily routine is simple. Students are allowed 24 minutes of check out time which is divided into 2 groups. One group checks out while the other is participating in center/ AR time. Our lesson time consists of 25-30 minutes of focused instruction on library skills, standards, or classroom reinforcement. The final 5 minutes, if time allows, is individual reading time. I feel this short amount of time allows the students a chance to work on their fluency and gain interest in the book they chose for the week.
